The Saltwater Café is one of Point Roberts’ newest eateries; opened last July it has been bustling ever since. Located at 1345 Gulf Road (just 2 minutes from Kiniski’s Reef Tavern & Larry’s Liquor), the Café serves breakfast and lunch Tuesdays through Saturdays, and is open late for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights.
Owner & chef Tamra Hansen has turned the Saltwater Café into the place to be for super-fresh food, with great salads, sandwiches, scrumptious baked goods and daily specials, inspired by the Pacific Northwest and made from local ingredients. Tamra is dedicated to Point Roberts; she’s the former co-owner of the Pier Restaurant and current vice-president of the Point Roberts Chamber of Commerce’s board. Tamra has operated a number of successful restaurants nationally as well, putting that experience and expertise into every item on the Café’s menu. And it shows – the reviews have been stellar, praising the daily specials that rotate seasonally.
The Saltwater Café makes up part of Point Roberts’ charmingly local and authentic food scene, along with Kiniski’s Reef, the South Beach House Restaurant and the Compass Rose Bar & Grill. And there’s rumours that the perennial favourite, Brewster’s, will be reopening again in the near future. If your hankering runs to ethnic cuisines, then there’s prolific range choices just minutes away in Tsawwassen. In combination, the peninsula’s restaurant community provides a range of great eats for locals and visitors alike.
