So it’s great timing to have started the construction of our brand new heated pool and spa area, which will be open for use within a few months! The New Point Roberts Library

The Friends of the Point Roberts Library have spent nearly five years raising funds to establish a new library for our community. After many fundraisers and generous donations, the project is close to being fully funded and ready to begin the renovation of the Julius Fire Hall, its future home. In this digital and online era it might seem strange to need more space for books, but a library is so much more in small towns like Point Roberts. The Canadian-American border is essentially a straight line from Minnesota all the way to us here in Point Roberts. Once it hits the water it runs through the Haro Strait, west of San Juan Island, and south around Vancouver Island into the ocean. This divides the Strait of Georgia into two distinct island groups – the American San Juan Islands, and the Canadian Gulf Islands (the Seabright Farm Cottages house models are named after islands in both groups!). And much like Point Roberts, this seemingly innocuous border has a very interesting history. Continue reading
