Point Roberts’ local golf club is now under new ownership, and they are planning a major investment to improve the greens and facilities. Earlier plans to revitalize the course didn’t get going, but this sale to Bald Eagle Valley Resort Holdings Inc. will get the renovations and revitalizations going, an exciting prospect for local golfers.
Coco Luo is the managing partner of Bald Eagle and a Richmond, BC resident. She is an avid golfer herself with a 12 handicap and she already owns two Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses in China. Luo is already in discussions with course designer Wayne Carleton and superintendent Rick Hoole to begin the extensive work planned for the course. The $4.45 million sale was made with cash and without any loans, highlighting the substantial resources of Luo and Bald Eagle and their serious intent to make the Point Roberts Golf Club a bi-national attraction!
In 2001, the Graham Cooke-designed golf course was named one of the 10 best new courses in the United States, and made Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play” list in 2009. With new ownership that seems willing to invest, we’ll be excited to see the course return to that top form.
Point Roberts is a great spot for golfing in the Pacific Northwest, thanks to our moderate temperature, the peaceful natural environment and the 150+ sunny days we average per year. The refurbishment work is expected to start soon and the course is aiming to be ready for opening in early 2018. A top-tier golf club will be another major step in the growth of Point Roberts into a world-class resort destination and we will follow the changes with anticipation!
