Point Roberts, our little slice of Pacific Northwest paradise, is secretly the best cottage real-estate spot for both Americans and Canadians. What makes it such a hidden gem?
A recent report from Royal LePage says that the recreational property market in BC has jumped in price again, with the aggregate price for a second property (vacation home, condo or cabin) reaching nearly $600,000 CAD in May, with no signs of slowing down. When you look at the areas most accessible from Vancouver, such as Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and the lower mainland, that number gets even higher. So cottage-seekers are looking further and further away from the Vancouver metro.
Here at Seabright Farm, our cottages start at $475,000 USD (~$630,000 CAD), a competitive price for most of BC, but a bargain when you consider how close we are to Vancouver and Seattle.
The existence of Point Roberts as a quiet little piece of America attached to Tsawwassen has been called odd or weird, but we call it convenient. That’s because you’re no more than a few hours from a number of major Pacific Northwest cities, and if you’ve got your own boat, you’re even closer!
You can get to downtown Vancouver in under an hour (depending on border times), and you’re just two hours and a half hours (and a ferry ride) away from Victoria.
You can also reach Seattle in under three hours from Point Roberts as well (although with two border crossings, we would recommend you read up on some border-crossing tips).
